The STAR Check System Overview E-mail

The STAR Check system is a total package, which is not available from other products. The assessment cards, assessment folders, training manuals, hands-on comprehensive training and database system to analyse trends offered the company immediate delivery on objectives.

The STAR Check system consists of the following components:

STAR Check Card

The card is utilised by trained assessors to guide the assessment process and record findings. (See Figure 2)

STAR Check Folder

The folder is used to contain the card during assessments and provides a summary of the criteria utilised to determine compliance with each of the 10 elements on the STAR Check card. The folder also has a hazard checklist and guidance on determining risk rating for the task.

STAR Check Training Manual

The training manual is utilised during the STAR Assessor training and is retained by the participants for future reference.

STAR Check Database

All STAR Check assessments are input into the database. The database then provides graphical representation of the trends in the workplace. Both strengths and weaknesses are identified. This assists management in identifying key area for improvement.

Did you know?

From 1 July 2007 all contractors in NSW are required by law to have a Contractor Safety and Health Management program. It will also be a requirement from all of the major mining companies that contractors health and safety programs meet an acceptable standard.

As a result of this the Jim Knowles Group and Mine Resilience Australia P/L have developed the content th May of a on-line training course with the support of the NSW Minerals Council, Coal Services Health and Safety Trust, Australian Institute of Quarrying Education Foundation and the University of Newcastle.

Major mining companies in Australia including Centennial, Xstrata, Anglo, BHP, Hansons and Rocla have given their support to this project.
